Try carrying a pair of disposable butane lighters. Why a pair? One just to leave in your pack, secure, dry and unused, the other to carry in your hunting clothes for ready use. Butane lighters are virtually unaffected by moisture, can be immersed in water and still work after striker assembly dries out, are lightweight and inexpensive.
Beyond the obvious use of starting fires, camp stoves and lanterns, use them to test the wind while hunting. We all know how crucial the wind is to carrying our scent and sound. The flame of a butane lighter is extremely sensitive to even the slightest stirring of breeze. Never again will you guess at the direction of an elusive slight wind.
